Gaston Rhinos Sports!
The second season of The Thundering Rhinos Sports Review is now airing. The show is hosted by former NBA basket player and Duke University basketball MVP, Gene Banks. Mr. Banks is currently Special Advisor to the President for Athletics & Advancement at the college.
The Thundering Rhinos Sports Review is a thirty minute show that airs on Mondays at 7 p.m. This program provides more comprehensive coverage of Gaston Rhinos sports with a rundown of recent games and their outcomes along with pertinent soundbites and interviews with coaches and players. The show also includes a segment titled, “From the Archives” with Richard Walker and the weekly selection of a high school athlete to be the recipient of our Gaston Rhinos Rising Star Award. The Award will be presented to a high student student deserving of recognition for his/her outstanding athletic performance, academic accomplishment and school or community service. Students will be selected for the award based on the following criteria: Athletic Achievements: A student athlete whose performance was the most critical to the team. Someone who has demonstrated exceptional skill and ability in his/her respective sport. Academic Standing: GPA 3.0+ and School or Community Service: A student athlete who assists others in improving their communities through volunteer programs, social groups, outreach centers or after school groups.
To be eligible for the award students must reside in counties within the station’s broadcast listening area (North Carolina counties: Gaston, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Catawba, Rowan, Cleveland, Iredell, Cabarrus and South Carolina counties: York, Union and Cherokee) Parents, coaches and school staff/administrators can nominate a student for the award using the form below: Selected students will be featured on the show and receive a certificate of recognition along with a $50 gift card.
